Bupleuri radix has been used as a natural drug for fever, inflammation and liver disease in traditional medicine. The present study was carried out to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and anti-ailergic effects of Bupleuri radix aqua-acupuncture solution(BRAA). In order to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of BRAA on carrageenin induced edma, SD rat was pretreated with BRAA(0.4§¢/rat) into ST36, which are the classical acupuncture point in traditional medicine, and then injected with carrageenin(1§·/rat) in the rat paw. In this test BRAA significantly suppressed the carrageenin induced edma. And we also investigated the effect of BRAA on IgE-mediated passive cutaneous anaphylactic(PCA) reaction. BALB/C mice were sensitized 3 times once in a week by an subcutaneous injection of egg albumin emulsified with complete Freund¢¥s adjuvant, and treated BRAA for 3days after each sensitization. In this test, BRAA slightly inhibited the IgE-mediated PCA reaction. In addition, BRAA improved survival and showed inhibition on histamine release in the compound 48/80(8§·/§¸, i.p.)-induced anaphylactic shock models. And BRAA exhibited dose-dependent inhibitory effect on histamine release from rat peritoneal mast cells.
